Will mammals die out like dinosaurs?

One fourth of the species of mammals in the world are threatened with extinction, according to to warnings of scientists. According to to research conducted, in more than 130 countries, the list of endangered species includes 1141 out of 5487 water and land mammal species.

It is frightening that after millions upon millions years of evolution which have resulted in the formation of biodiversity, we are now standing on the brink of crisis, in which the existence of 25% of mammal species is threatened, comments Professor Andrew Smith, one of 103 authors of the report on the issue of threat to mammals, published in the latest issue of the ˊScienceˊ weekly.

It is the human activity that is to blame for this dramatic situation. It is because of us, as scientist prove, that natural habitats of animals are becoming smaller, that animals are affected by the result of global warming and rabunkowej agricultural and marine economy.

Scientists emphasize that it is only making conservation regulations more severe that may save the dying out species.

It is essential to limit the trade in the endangered species of animals, insists Prof. Smith. Apart from that, so many habitats are being destroyed without necessity; in too many magnificent tropical forests, trees are cut down so as to end up as coffee tables ot other luxury furniture, as the scientist expresses with regrety.
